Choosing get well flowers

Hospital or home?

Check with the hospital before you order. Some units, such as intensive care, and some patients with weakened immune systems can't have fresh flowers or plants in the room. When flowers are welcome, a compact arrangement that fits on a bedside table works best, and low-scent options such as alstroemeria, carnations, most roses, sunflowers and gerbera daisies are kinder in a shared room than strongly fragrant lilies. For a hospital delivery, include the patient's full name and room number. Hospital stays are often short, so if they'll be home in a day or two, send flowers there instead, where they can enjoy them longer. Gift baskets that ship by carrier go to the hospital's mail room or receiving desk, so choose a florist arrangement for a hospital delivery.

Flowers and colors that lift spirits

Bright blooms in yellow and orange feel sunny and upbeat, while soft pastels create a calm atmosphere and bring comfort during a long recovery. Sunflowers and bright mixed bouquets add color to a kitchen table, and alstroemeria and carnations are known for lasting a long time in the vase. Plants delivered to the home keep going for weeks with little care; see plants and orchids. Not sure what they'd like? A Designer's Choice bouquet lets the florist pick the freshest bright flowers that day. You can also shop sunflowers and yellow flowers.

Each bouquet is made by hand by a local florist near the recipient. Choose the date by ZIP code when you add an arrangement to your cart. Same-day delivery is available on orders placed by 2:00 PM ET Monday to Friday and by 1:30 PM ET on Saturday, with no Sunday deliveries, and most deliveries arrive by 8:00 PM local time. Severe weather can occasionally delay a delivery; if that happens, we'll contact you. If the flowers arrive damaged or wilted, tell us within 24 hours of delivery; for any other freshness concern, you have five days. We'll send a replacement or a refund, as our refund policy explains.

What other get well gifts can I send?

A potted plant or orchid lasts for weeks with little care, which suits a long recovery at home. You can also add get well balloons to most flower orders in your cart so they arrive together. For a hospital, check the rules first, since some units don't allow plants or balloons.
