New Year Flowers & Gifts

New Year flowers welcome a fresh start for a host, a friend or your own home. Choose orchids that bloom for weeks, wintry bouquets in white, blue and lavender, or a calm centerpiece, each hand-finished by a local florist near the recipient.

New Year's flowers that outlast the party make a good start to January. The guide below compares plants and bouquets for New Year's Eve or Day and suggests what to write on the card.

How to pick New Year flowers

Orchids for a gift that lasts

Four of the twelve gifts here are potted orchids, the longest-lasting way to start the year. Divine Orchid pairs two lavender phalaenopsis stems, the Purple Phalaenopsis Orchid sits in a glass cube and comes in purple or white, with or without a candle, and the White Orchid Single Stem rises from Spanish moss in a clear glass vase. Given bright, indirect light, a phalaenopsis keeps blooming for weeks, long after the confetti is swept up. See all of our orchids.

Wintry bouquets and centerpieces

Winter Wishes Bouquet sets pinecones among roses, delphinium, carnations and lilies in cool blue and white, and Elegant Charm Centerpiece trades holiday red for lavender, blue and white. Blissful Blue Hydrangea Bouquet, a full cluster of rich blue hydrangeas, comes as a bouquet only or with an apothecary jar. Wintry Wonder keeps a touch of red with roses, cymbidium orchids and frosted pinecones, for a host whose decorations are still up. More cool-toned designs are in our winter flowers.

A candle for the countdown

The Rewined Champagne Candle, with notes of peony, bergamot, peach blossom and brioche, is a fun add-on for a New Year's Eve host. Paired with a bouquet or an orchid, it turns flowers into one of the easier New Year gifts to send. Browse more candles.

Timing around New Year's Eve and Day

New Year's Eve is December 31 and New Year's Day is January 1. For a party, schedule flowers to arrive the day before, since a specific delivery time can't be guaranteed. If either day lands on a Sunday, pick Saturday or sooner, as there are no Sunday deliveries. For the card, which you add at checkout, try "Here's to a bright year ahead, love, Sam and Priya" or "Happy New Year from the whole team."

New Year flower questions

What flower symbolizes the New Year?

No single flower owns the holiday, but white flowers with greenery are widely linked with clarity and fresh starts, lilies with renewal, and orchids with strength and grace. That makes a white orchid or a white and blue bouquet a natural pick for a year just beginning.

What are the January birth flowers?

January has two: the carnation and the snowdrop. Carnations are often linked with love and admiration, and snowdrops with hope, since they push through snow in late winter. Winter Wishes Bouquet includes carnations, and our carnations page has many more.

What is a good New Year gift for a host?

Something they won't have to tend during the party. An orchid or a ready-to-display bouquet works well, and a scented candle is an easy extra. If you'll be at their home, send the flowers ahead so the host isn't hunting for a vase while guests arrive.

Can flowers be delivered on New Year's Eve?

Yes, if that date shows as open on the delivery calendar for the recipient's ZIP code. Same-day orders are taken until 2:00 PM ET Monday to Friday and 1:30 PM ET on Saturday, and there are no Sunday deliveries. It's a busy week, so ordering a few days early gives you more dates to pick from.
