Standing Sprays

If you're sending flowers to a funeral or memorial service, a standing spray is one of the most visible ways to honor someone: a tall arrangement on an easel, displayed beside the casket or urn or near the entrance.

Choose a standing funeral spray, heart, wreath or cross in white, blue and white, red, pastel or bright colors, made by hand by a local florist near the funeral home. The guide below covers flowers, color, size and delivery timing.

What to know before you order a standing spray

Standing sprays, casket sprays and other tributes

A standing spray stands upright on its own easel, so it can go wherever the family wants it and is easy for guests to see: beside the casket or urn, at the front of a chapel, or near the guest book. A casket spray lies on top of the casket and is usually chosen by the immediate family. A classic standing spray has a fan or teardrop shape, and standing hearts, circular wreaths and crosses are displayed on easels too. Several are included here.

Who sends a standing funeral spray

Standing sprays are often sent by close family, extended family, close friends, or a group such as coworkers, a team or a congregation pooling together. A group spray usually lists every sender, or the group's name, on the card. To send something to the family's home instead, choose from sympathy flowers for the home, since standing sprays are made for the service.

Flowers, color and size

Many of our standing sprays feature roses, lilies, carnations or chrysanthemums, and some are finished with a ribbon. Lilies are a traditional sympathy flower, and carnations and chrysanthemums are long-lasting flowers linked with remembrance in many cultures. White is the most traditional color for funeral sprays. Blue and white, red and white, and soft pastels are also common, and a bright spray can reflect a lively personality or a favorite color. Most sprays come in three sizes; select a larger size for a fuller look in a large room. If you're unsure which size to choose, contact us through our contact page before you order.

Delivery to the funeral home

When you order online, enter the funeral home's ZIP code to see available dates, and choose a date before the service so the spray is in place when guests arrive. Use the funeral home's full address and include the name of the deceased and the service details, then review them at checkout before you complete your order. Same-day delivery is available on orders placed by 2:00 PM ET Monday to Friday and by 1:30 PM ET on Saturday, and there are no Sunday deliveries. If a flower, color or container isn't available, the florist may substitute one of equal or higher value while keeping the look and feel of the design.

Standing spray questions

What is a standing spray?

A standing spray is a large arrangement of fresh flowers built on a tall easel for a funeral or memorial service. It stands beside the casket or urn, near the entrance or by the guest book, and most come in three sizes.

What is the difference between a standing spray and a casket spray?

A casket spray lies on top of the casket and is usually ordered by the immediate family. A standing spray is displayed on an easel nearby and is often sent by relatives, friends or a group.

Can a standing spray be delivered to a home?

Standing sprays are made for a funeral home, church or other service venue, and they're large for a living room. For the family's home, a vase arrangement or plant is a better fit.

How long does a standing spray last?

It's designed to look its best through the visitation and service, and fresh flowers often hold up for several days afterward. Some families take the sprays to the graveside or home once the service ends.

When should I order a standing spray?

As soon as you know the service details. Choose a delivery date before the service. Same-day delivery is available on orders placed by 2:00 PM ET on weekdays or by 1:30 PM ET on Saturday, when the date is available for the funeral home's ZIP code. There are no Sunday deliveries.
