Plants

Plant delivery sends a living gift to loved ones or the office: peace lilies, orchid plants, dish gardens and blooming plants, each arranged by hand and delivered by a local florist near the recipient.

A plant keeps growing long after cut flowers fade, so your gift stays in their home for years. The guide below matches plants to occasions and covers care and hospital tips. Weekday orders placed by 2:00 PM ET can arrive the same day where available.

How to choose a plant for delivery

Plants for sympathy and comfort

A peace lily is the classic sympathy plant. Its white blooms are often linked with peace and calm, and with simple care it can keep growing for years, a quiet reminder that friends are thinking of them as they grieve a loved one. Several of our plants are built around a peace lily: the Small Elegant Spathiphyllum comes in a plain basket or a keepsake container, and the Double Plant Basket pairs a peace lily with a palm under a white ribbon. A white orchid or a green dish garden also suits a grieving home, and you'll find more in sympathy plants.

Plants for get well wishes and hospitals

For someone recovering at home, choose a plant that asks little. An orchid or a dish garden needs watering only now and then and keeps going through a long recovery. Hospitals are different. Some units, such as intensive care, don't allow plants or fresh flowers, and potting soil can be a concern for patients with weakened immune systems, so call ahead. If plants are allowed, include the patient's full name and room number. If they're about to go home, send the plant to their house instead, or choose a compact bouquet from our get well flowers.

Orchid plants for special occasions and the office

Orchids are often linked with beauty, elegance and everlasting love, which makes them one of the most popular plant gifts for a birthday, an anniversary or a promotion. Our orchid plants include a double-stem white phalaenopsis about three feet tall, the Divine Orchid with two lavender stems, and the Purple Phalaenopsis Orchid in a glass cube sized for a desk or counter. For a new office or a team, a dish garden or a Designer's Choice green plant, chosen by the florist from the healthiest plants on hand, brings greenery to the space. Want more color? Browse flowering plants such as the Pink Calla Lily. Seasonal plants are here too: fall mums, poinsettias for Christmas, Easter lilies and spring tulip bulb gardens.

Light and watering basics

Most gift plants do well in bright, indirect light, such as near an east window, and out of hot afternoon sun. Fall mums are the exception: they want full sun outdoors. Too much water is a more common problem than too little. Water a peace lily when the top inch of soil feels dry; it droops when it's thirsty and usually perks up within hours. Phalaenopsis orchids are usually potted in bark or moss rather than regular soil, so water about once a week, let the extra drain away and never leave the roots standing in water. If a pot sits in a basket or decorative wrap, check that water isn't pooling underneath. For a home with cats, skip Easter lilies, which are toxic to them even in small amounts. Peace lilies, calla lilies, mums and poinsettias can also upset a pet's mouth or stomach, so keep them out of reach.

How plant delivery works

Plants are handled just like flowers: a local florist near the recipient prepares each one by hand and delivers it, at addresses in the United States. Enter the ZIP code to see available dates. Same-day delivery is available on orders placed by 2:00 PM ET Monday to Friday and by 1:30 PM ET on Saturday, when that date is available, and there are no Sunday deliveries. Office deliveries go to the front desk or reception during business hours. If a plant or container isn't available, the florist may substitute one of equal or higher value while keeping the look and feel of the design. If a plant arrives damaged or wilted, tell us within 24 hours of delivery for a replacement or a full refund, as our refund policy explains.

Plant delivery questions

How do I send a plant to someone?

Pick a plant, enter the recipient's ZIP code on the product page to see the dates available, and add your card message at checkout. A local florist near them prepares the plant and hand delivers it on the date you choose. For an office, use the business address and choose a weekday so someone at reception can receive it.

What is the best plant gift to send?

For most people, a peace lily or an orchid. Both bloom, both handle indoor light, and both are easy to care for if you don't overwater. A dish garden suits someone who prefers greenery, and if you're not sure, a Designer's Choice blooming plant lets the florist choose the healthiest, most colorful plant on hand that day.

How long do orchid plants last after delivery?

A phalaenopsis orchid often stays in bloom for a month or more, sometimes two or three, in bright, indirect light away from drafts. After the flowers drop, the plant keeps growing, and with steady care and orchid fertilizer about once a month, many bloom again within a year. That long life is a big reason orchid plant delivery is such a popular gift.

Can plants be delivered to a hospital?

Yes, when the hospital allows them. Add the patient's full name and room number if you have it. Rules vary by unit, and some don't accept plants at all, so it's worth a quick call first. If the patient is going home soon, their home address is often the better choice.

Can I get plants delivered today?

Yes, if today is open on the delivery calendar for the recipient's ZIP code. Order by 2:00 PM ET Monday to Friday or by 1:30 PM ET on Saturday. Most deliveries arrive by 8:00 PM in the recipient's time zone, a specific time can't be guaranteed, and there are no Sunday deliveries.

What does it mean to give someone a plant?

A plant makes a lasting gift and is often seen as a sign of growth and care, since it keeps living long after the occasion. That's why plants are traditional gifts for a new job, a family in mourning or a new home. Orchids are often linked with beauty and peace lilies with calm.
